Silence
Thursday 2nd July 2015 @ 12:48 pm
I am about to go into a few days of silence at a local retreat centre … for the first time.
I will confess I know not what it will be like. I desire to know the difference between silence and stillness, between prayerful and mindful, between boredom and rest, between revelation and intuition.
I hope, I will find the time too short.
I hope, that I will feel a little more human.
I hope that I will learn and experience more than I have learned and experienced thus far …
but my goodness, it is so hard to leave a messy ‘undone list’ … even for a few days.
Somewhere within me lies WB Yeats on Innisfree … I leave it with you.
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean rows will I have there, a hive for the honeybee,
And live alone in the bee–loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight’s all a–glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet’s wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and day I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray,
I hear it in the deep heart’s core.
