New Year restoration
Wednesday 30th December 2009 @ 12:00 am

As another New Year approaches, it is good to reflect - remember, think, recall and restate what is important ...

but it is also important to dream & imagine ... and as we do that, it is good to remember the God who speaks of restoration and strength in all things ... so here are a few of my favourite passages of restoration for anyone who wants to mull them over like I will be trying to do. As I try and dream another new year ...

If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That's to prevent anyone from confusing God's incomparable power with us. As it is, there's not much chance of that. You know for yourselves that we're not much to look at. We've been surrounded and battered by troubles, but we're not demoralized; we're not sure what to do, but we know that God knows what to do; we've been spiritually terrorized, but God hasn't left our side; we've been thrown down, but we haven't broken ...

We're not keeping this quiet, not on your life. Just like the psalmist who wrote, "I believed it, so I said it," we say what we believe. And what we believe is that the One who raised up the Master Jesus will just as certainly raise us up with you, alive. Every detail works to your advantage and to God's glory: more and more grace, more and more people, more and more praise..

So we're not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace.

This is written by Janet Morley and is a prayer that reminds me that God is there during the \"certain\" parts and the \"messy\" parts of my spiritual life. For the darkness of waiting of not knowing what is to come of staying ready and quiet and attentive, we praise you O God. For the darkness and the light are both alike to you. For the darkness of staying silent for the terror of having nothing to say and for the greater terror of needing to say nothing, we praise you O God. For the darkness and the light are both alike to you For the darkness of loving in which it is safe to surrender to let go of our self - protection and to stop holding back our desire, we praise you O God. For the darkness and the light are both alike to you For the darkness of choosing when you give us the moment to speak, to act, and change, and we cannot know what we have set in motion, but we still have to take the risk, we praise you O God. For the darkness and the light are both alike to you. For the darkness of hoping in a world which longs for you, for the wrestling and the labouring of all creation for wholeness and justice and freedom, we praise you O God. For the darkness and the light are both alike to you.
